Tucson fills up with RVs every fall. Winters here are mild, sunny and dry, so from about October through April the parks along I-10 stay busy with snowbirds, rally groups and travelers crossing between Texas and California. Summer is a different trip: real desert heat, when shade and a solid electrical hookup matter more than a pool. Most parks sit in three pockets: the northwest side near the freeway and Flowing Wells, the southeast near the Pima County Fairgrounds off exit 275, and the south side along Craycroft Road. Saguaro National Park brackets the city on both sides, so a cactus-forest drive is never far from your site.

Camping past the hookups?
Pulling into a park with hookups is the easy part of an RV trip. The harder nights are the ones in between: dry camping on public land outside town, a long travel day, or a power outage at the park. A portable power station runs the fridge, CPAP, fans and phones without a generator's noise or fumes, and it recharges from solar while you are out exploring.
