Mesa is the snowbird capital of the East Valley. Every winter, RVers from Canada and the upper Midwest settle into the resorts that line Main Street, University Drive and the roads running east toward Ellsworth. Spring training, golf and the trails at Usery Mountain and the Superstitions fill the days from about October to April. One perk most desert cities can't offer: the Valley Metro light rail runs down Main Street, so a few close-in parks let you reach Tempe and Phoenix without unhitching the car. Expect plenty of 55+ communities, plus a handful of all-ages options.

Taking the rig past the city limits?
Mesa's resorts have all the power you could want, but the best part of an East Valley winter is often out past the pavement, on Bush Highway or deep in the Tonto. A portable power station runs lights, a CPAP or a small fridge when there is no pedestal in sight, and a folding solar panel tops it back up between outings.
