Best RV Parks in Santa Fe, NM

Santa Fe sits at about 7,000 feet against the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and it is the oldest state capital in the country. RVers come for the Plaza, the Canyon Road galleries, Museum Hill, the summer opera season and day trips to Pecos National Historical Park and nearby pueblos. Summer means warm days and cool nights, winter brings real snow, and a few park amenities like pools run only in summer. The private parks sit on the edges of town: southeast on the Old Las Vegas Highway near I-25, south on the Turquoise Trail and southwest off NM-599. Public campgrounds climb Hyde Park Road into the mountains.

A family-owned big-rig park on a hilltop homestead along the Turquoise Trail, about 20 minutes south of the Plaza and open since 1999. Every site has 50/30-amp full hookups and a concrete patio with a bistro table, and there is a fenced dog run, a propane fill station and an antique engine display.

Cold nights at 7,000 feet?

Santa Fe's high-desert nights cool off fast, even in July, and a day trip to Pecos or the pueblos can easily turn into an evening away from the pedestal. A portable power station keeps phones, lights, a CPAP or a small fridge running when you are off the grid, and a few hours of strong New Mexico sun on a solar panel will help recharge it.
