El Paso sits in the Chihuahuan Desert at the far western tip of Texas, and its spot on I-10 makes it a natural overnight stop between San Antonio and Tucson. Summers are hot and dry, winters are mild and sunny, and spring can bring strong wind and dust. Parks gather along the interstate at both ends of the city: the Lower Valley and east side near Ysleta and the Mission Valley, and the far west side at Anthony, on the New Mexico line. Nearby draws include Franklin Mountains State Park, the Scenic Drive overlook, Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site and the Mission Trail. Fort Bliss is a major employer, but its RV park is military-only.

Putting all that desert sun to work?
El Paso is called the Sun City for good reason, and clear desert skies make it an easy place to charge from a solar panel. A portable power station filled by that sun can run lights, fans and devices on a boondocking night along the long I-10 run toward Tucson, and it covers the basics if a spring windstorm takes the park's power down.
For panels you can fold up and stash, see our portable solar panels.
