Destin anchors Florida's Emerald Coast, wedged between the Gulf of Mexico and Choctawhatchee Bay. RV parks cluster in three pockets: Miramar Beach just east of town, where you can walk or shuttle to the Gulf; Okaloosa Island between Destin and Fort Walton Beach, with bay-front sites across from the beach; and Navarre to the west on Santa Rosa Sound. Eglin Air Force Base and Hurlburt Field are nearby, but their famcamps are for military users only, so civilians book private parks, some of which give military discounts. Spring break through summer is peak season, and winter belongs to snowbirds on monthly stays.

Spending the whole day on the sand?
Emerald Coast days run long, from the beach in the morning to a fishing pier at sunset. A portable power station keeps a fan, a small fridge and everyone's phones going at the beach or on a dry night between parks, and it can cover the basics if a summer storm knocks out the campground's power. Folding solar panels refill it in the Florida sun.
For panels you can fold up and stash, see our portable solar panels.
