An electric stove (range) is rated at about 12 to 13 kW at 240 volts with everything on, but a single burner uses about 1,200 to 3,100 watts and the oven about 2,600 watts to bake. GE rates its JB645RKSS range at 12.1 kW at 240V (9.1 kW at 208V) on a 40 amp circuit. In normal cooking you rarely use everything at once, which matters a lot when you plan backup power.
| Model | Rating at 240V / 208V | Circuit | Burners | Bake / broil |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GE JB645RKSS | 12.1 kW / 9.1 kW | 40 A | Two 9"/6" at 3,100 W; two 6" at 1,200 W | 2,585 W / 3,410 W |
| GE GRF600AVSS | 13.2 kW / 9.9 kW | 40 A | 3,100 W, 3,000 W, two at 1,200 W, plus an 80 W warming zone | 2,850 W / 3,410 W |
| Frigidaire FCRE3052B | 12 kW at 240V | 40 A minimum | 3,000 W, 1,400/3,000 W dual, two at 1,200 W | 2,600 W bake |

Find your own number: the rating plate, usually inside the oven door frame or behind the storage drawer, lists kW at 240V and 208V.
Watts x hours / 1,000 = kWh. A 1,200 W burner on for 30 minutes uses at most 0.6 kWh, about 10 cents at 17 cents per kWh. A 2,585 W bake element at full power for an hour would use about 2.6 kWh, about 44 cents, but the element cycles once the oven reaches temperature, so real use is lower.
Yes, with the right generator and hookup. A range is hard-wired at 240V, so it needs a 120/240V generator connected through a transfer switch or interlock kit. Size for what you will actually use at once. For example, baking (2,585 W) with one large burner on (3,100 W) is about 5,700 W, before the fridge and lights.

A 120V power station cannot run a 240V range. A home battery with 240V output can run part of it: Jackery lists its Explorer 5000 Plus (7.2 kW at 120/240V, from $3,149) as supporting ovens. For outage cooking on a portable power station, plug-in appliances use far less:
The Jackery Explorer 2000 v2 (2,042 Wh, 2,200 W, from $899) runs any of those.

How many watts does an electric stove use? About 12 to 13 kW at 240V with everything on, per GE and Frigidaire ratings. A single burner uses about 1,200 to 3,100 W.
How many watts does an electric oven use? About 2,585 to 2,850 W to bake and 3,410 W to broil for the GE ranges above.
How many amps does an electric stove use? The GE and Frigidaire ranges above call for a 40 amp, 240V circuit. A single 1,200 W burner draws 5 amps at 240V.
Can I run an electric stove on a generator? Yes, with a 120/240V generator and a transfer switch or interlock kit. Use one or two elements at a time.
How much does it cost to run an electric stove? About 10 cents for a 1,200 W burner for 30 minutes, at 17 cents per kWh.
