The SunStar 16 Cu Ft Upright Refrigerator (Model ST-16RF) is a high-efficiency AC/DC fridge and freezer combo designed for off-grid and solar-powered homes. This Amish-made appliance features independent cooling compartments and extra-thick insulation to minimize energy consumption.

  • Dual-compartment cooling: The unit features two separate compartments with independent temperature control via a dual-compressor, dual-thermostat system.
    • Top compartment: 4.8 cubic feet. Can be set as either a refrigerator or a freezer. Defrost is manual.
    • Bottom compartment: 11.2 cubic feet. Functions as a refrigerator with an automatic defrost feature.
  • Power flexibility: The refrigerator can run automatically on three power sources, with an internal voltage switch that handles the transition.
    • 12V DC (Operating range: 9.6V to 17V)
    • 24V DC (Operating range: 21V to 31.5V)
    • 115V AC
  • Superior insulation: To ensure maximum energy efficiency, the appliance is built with four inches of polyurethane insulation in its walls.
  • Energy efficiency: The refrigerator has a low power draw designed for solar setups. The typical power draw is around 60 watts (5 amps @ 12V / 2.5 amps @ 24V). Daily energy consumption varies by ambient temperature and settings:
    • Fridge only: 155 to 295 watt-hours per day.
    • Freezer only: 260 to 433 watt-hours per day.
