The Sol-Ark 15kW Hybrid Inverter (model SA-15K or 15K-2P-N) is a versatile, all-in-one solar energy management system for residential and light commercial use. It functions as an inverter, charge controller, system monitor, and transfer switch, and is designed for both grid-tied and off-grid applications. 
Key specifications
  • Power output: Delivers a continuous 15,000 watts (15kW) of AC power when combined with solar PV.
  • Voltage: Produces standard split-phase AC voltage (120/240VAC) for household use and operates with a 48VDC battery system.
  • High efficiency: Features a maximum efficiency of up to 97.5%.
  • Grid passthrough: A built-in 200-amp transfer switch allows for whole-home backup without requiring a separate critical loads panel. This feature allows up to 48 kW of power to pass through from an external source.
  • Environmental rating: Its NEMA 3R enclosure is rated for both indoor and outdoor installation, protecting the unit from rain, sleet, snow, and falling dirt.
  • Expandable: Multiple units can be stacked in parallel (up to 12) to increase the system's power capacity.
  • Surge capacity: Can handle high-load startup surges, such as those from air conditioners and well pumps. 

All-in-one design The  Sol-Ark 15kW  bundles multiple components into a single unit, which simplifies installation and reduces hardware costs. The system includes: 
  • Inverter: Converts DC power from solar panels or batteries into usable AC power.
  • Charge controller: Features three independent Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) inputs to maximize solar harvest from multiple arrays.
  • Automatic transfer switch: Instantly switches to battery backup during a grid outage (within 5 milliseconds), preventing interruptions to your power.
  • Built-in disconnects: Integrated DC disconnect and AC output breaker simplify wiring.
  • System monitoring: A built-in LCD touchscreen, Wi-Fi, and LAN allow for remote monitoring and adjustments. 

Compatibility and features
  • Battery agnostic: Works with a wide variety of 48V battery chemistries, including lead-acid and lithium-ion, allowing you to choose based on your needs and budget.
  • Flexible power management: Operates in multiple modes to reduce energy costs, including:
    • Grid-tied mode: Sells excess power back to the utility grid.
    • Time-of-use (TOU) mode: Charges batteries when electricity rates are low and discharges them during peak rate hours.
    • Off-grid mode: Provides power completely independent of the utility grid.
  • AC and DC coupling: Supports both DC-coupled solar (panels and batteries on the DC side) and AC-coupled solar (retrofitting a battery to an existing grid-tied AC system).
