The SimpliPhi (now Briggs & Stratton) BOSS.6 Battery Only Storage System is a NEMA 3R-rated outdoor enclosure designed to house and wire up to six SimpliPhi 3.8 kWh LFP batteries. This particular configuration is equipped with 8-foot, 4/0 AWG battery-to-inverter cables. 
System specifications
  • Enclosure: The  BOSS.6  is a carbon-steel cabinet with built-in shelving, suitable for free-standing or pad-mounted installation. It has a NEMA 3R rating, which means it provides protection against rain, sleet, snow, and external ice formation.
  • Battery capacity: When fully populated with six 3.8 kWh batteries, the system provides a total energy storage capacity of 22.8 kWh (6 x 3.8 kWh).
  • Dimensions and weight:
    • Dimensions (W x H x D): 36 inches x 36 inches (40 inches with feet) x 16 inches.
    • Weight: The empty enclosure weighs 180 lbs (81.64 kg).
  • Included components:
    • Cables: Two 8-foot, 4/0 AWG cables are included for connecting the battery bank to an inverter or other Balance of System (BoS) equipment.
    • DC connections: The cabinet has two built-in 5-point terminal busbars for parallel wiring, with 3/8-inch lugs rated for 650 ADC.
    • Ventilation: A corrosion-resistant fan is included to regulate the temperature of the batteries.
  • Safety and technology:
    • Battery type: The system uses safe, non-toxic, cobalt-free Lithium Ferro Phosphate (LFP) batteries.
    • Safety certifications: The  BOSS.6  is UL 9540 Certified when used with compatible SimpliPhi/Briggs & Stratton inverters.
  • Installation notes:
    • Mounting: The cabinet can be installed as a free-standing unit or can be pad-mounted.
    • Cable guidance: For optimal performance, SimpliPhi recommends that all parallel battery-to-busbar wiring use cables of the same length and gauge to ensure balanced load.
    • Busbars: Interconnecting busbar sets (for connecting batteries to each other within the cabinet) are not included and can be ordered separately if needed.
