The Magnum Energy PT-100 is a 100 Amp MPPT charge controller that automatically detects 12, 24, or 48 VDC battery banks and accepts up to 240 VDC from a solar array. Designed for both off-grid and grid-tied systems, it optimizes solar power harvesting using Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technology.  Manufactured by Sensata Technologies, the Magnum Energy brand was recently discontinued but has since been acquired and re-launched by DMX Power, which plans to resume manufacturing in 2025. 
Key features
  • High efficiency: The  PT-100  boasts a peak conversion efficiency of over 99%, and typically 98%. Its low nighttime power consumption is less than two watts.
  • Large array support: A single controller can support a large photovoltaic (PV) array up to 6,600 watts.
  • Flexible installation:
    • The unit can be installed in a variety of configurations or integrated with a Magnum Panel (MP) or Mini-Magnum Panel (MMP) system.
    • It features a unique, removable wiring box for simplified installation.
  • Enhanced safety: Integrated safety features help ensure compliance with the National Electric Code (NEC).
    • Ground Fault Detection and Interruption (GFDI): Detects leakage and provides diagnostic metering.
    • Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI): Detects, indicates, and extinguishes series arcs.
  • Comprehensive protection: The controller includes extensive electronic protection against:
    • High PV input
    • PV short circuits
    • Output overcurrent
    • Reverse current at night
    • Over-temperature with power derating
  • Multi-state charging: Maximizes system performance and extends battery life using three automatic charging stages: bulk, absorption, and float. A manual equalization function is also included.
  • Battery compatibility: It can be used with a variety of deep-cycle battery options, including AGM, sealed, gel, flooded, and lithium.
  • Included temperature sensor: An external battery temperature sensor is included for precise, temperature-compensated charging.
  • Data logging: The  PT-100  includes internal data logging that can store energy harvest information for up to 255 days. This information can be viewed with an optional ME-ARC50 remote.
  • Field-updatable software: The controller's software can be updated on-site.
